Suspect in fatal stabbing at Icon Residences in Brickell found dead: Police

A man who was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man at a high-rise in Brickell Sunday morning was later found dead, police said.

According to Miami Police, the incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. on the 34th floor at the Icon Residences, located at 485 Brickell Avenue.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with apparent stab wounds who was pronounced dead.

His identity has not been released.

Miami Police said cameras and witnesses in the area told them at least one to two subjects fled the scene and into a building that is under construction.

Police said the subject was found dead on one of the bottom floors of the construction building.

"We were investigating and we were checking this abandoned building that is still under construction, we have located the subject of interest and he is deceased," said Miami Police spokesman Michael Vega.

The suspect's identity and how he died have not been disclosed.

NBC6 cameras captured SWAT teams in the area as crews and K-9 officers worked to gather evidence.

Police said there was no threat to the public.

Miami Police Chief Manny Morales later released a statement on the incident.

"I want to assure the community that we are thoroughly investigating this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time. We are also working to understand the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death," the statement read. "At this moment, there is no threat to public safety, and we encourage everyone to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to secure their homes regularly to prevent crime and ensure their safety."
